Mudslide on I-5 North of LA
« on: October 15, 2015, 05:47:54 PM »
Big slide has traffic stopped, possibly in both directions.  Weird weather here since last night, with heavy rain and thunder/lightening.

CHP reported several hundred cars were abandoned in the area.

I-5 will probably stay closed for 24 hours.

And we haven't even gotten a drop of rain down here in San Diego.

One of the local TV weather guys reported that the rainstorm responsible for this muddy mess is predicted to occur only about once every thousand years.

This is a picture of a mudslide over the 58, in the Mojave, from the same storm.

They're predicting more rain this afternoon.

This is similar to the pictures my California friends are posting on Facebook.

Not good.

They say the mud is 3 miles long on the 58, and will take three days to clean up, as long as they don't get more flooding this afternoon.

The northbound I-5 is now open, southbound in a couple hours, hopefully.

It looks like the mudslide took at least one life on the 58 last week.
