Fruit recall
« on: August 04, 2014, 10:05:19 PM »
If you've bought California nectarines, peaches, plums or pluots lately, even the organic kind, check the label carefully. The fruit may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause listeriosis. This serious infection can give you temporary problems such as a high fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea, headaches, stiffness and nausea.

If this contamination was got at the packing plant, has it soaked in ? Or, cant it just be washed off ? Either way, we do need to wash bought fruit before eating it

This was definitely a first for me, but I got a phone call from Costco about this recall saying some nectarines I bought may have been contaminated with listeria.  When I bought the nectarines 2 weeks prior, they were already very ripe, so they were gone well within a week.  Those nectarines had been eaten almost a week before I got the phone call.  I guess it was nice to know, but there's nothing that I could have done about it.

Is this something that can usually be simply washed off?
