Basic Tarp Repairs
« on: September 16, 2014, 04:46:31 AM »
Over time all kit becomes worn and in some cases fails. This can be through normal wear and tear or damage caused unintentionally. My DD 3x3m tarp has suffered a few burn holes when it was necessary to have a fire almost under it due to heavy rain or when it was particularly windy and embers were blown up and over it even when it was in a place that normally is far enough away.

I've found that the quickest and easiest way to repair small burn holes, or even rips, have been with using bicycle repair patches. My tarp now has close to half a dozen patches on it now and some have been on there for a while and even though the edges have frayed slightly they still do the job.

It's a pretty simple and cheap way to repair your tarp without the need to replace it. I'm sure there are other methods and probably dedicated kits to do the same job but when you can pick up a puncture repair kit for a pound or so it has to be one of the cheapest ways to do it.
