Hey everyone, new listener here and I love the show.  I figured I should contribute a bit of my insight.  Here's what I usually take into the woods here in Maine (at least my H20 Pack).  Please don't hesitate to ask questions / make suggestions.  Thanks!




















The fastest hiker I know

7.55lbs full with 40oz of water, a mountain house entree, alcohol stove kit

5.56lbs without food and bottle stove (nothing in rolly pouch)

How I usually carry is H20 pouch around shoulder, everything in belt goes in pockets, wifey gets her backpack (if I'm not solo)

A blizzard survival tube also usually lives in the lady's pack.

Angler, that looks like a well thought out, compact kit.  Stays on the left side so your right side is free to cast. And light weight!  Nicely done!

It's taken a lot of experimentation to get to how it is now, that's for sure.  With the cord being setup as it is, I can also loop it around so it rides on both shoulders like a backpack (can even clip the two together with a small biner to act as a chest strap).

Wish I hadn't misspelled versatile, oh well.

Well thought out, although it seems heavy on first aid stuff.  Any problem which can't be solved with duct tape and a bandanna, you don't need first aid, you need a helicopter.

If that is duct tape around the bottle, how will you put it in the fire?

I have a very similar kit which I put together from Dave Canterbury's outfit.

I affixed a rifle strap for a shoulder strap.

Combined with the cargo space in the sheath of

the two make a pretty complete survival kit (aka "what if I get lost in the woods" hiking kit).
I use a haversack as a possibles and misc bag.
I made a belt bag for my fire kit, or can leave it in the haversack.

Nice compact kit.  I like the fact that you've thought about the occasional need for extra capacity with the stuffable pack.  I've just recently added one of those to my kit, too.  I generally go with no-cook food in my pack and add bullion cubes, but I have a passionate love for chicken bullion that isn't something I care to talk about here.

Have you thought about adding a disposable poncho?  That's the one item I never hike without.

Buy some Everclear and use it for your alcohol stove.  Burns just as hot and has additional uses.

One thing to note about alcohol stoves is the amount of CO they produce.  When I was choosing a stove I found an article on CO produced by different stoves and alcohol was the worst, so never use them in a confined space.

What type of pouches are attached to the side?  I have a similar bottle carrier.  Like ur setup!
