Zombucks: The Currency of the Apocalypse ®
« on: October 25, 2014, 05:58:54 PM »
A friend in RL told me about these just now.

Zombucks are silver and copper coins put out by Provident Metals. They are being marketed as "The Currency of the Apocalypse." (And they even have the "®" symbol to indicates that they have trademarked that designation.)

Quote
Zombucks: Currency of the Apocalypse®

There’s no need to worry about currency devaluation, inflation or diversifying your portfolio......when you're trying to survive a zombie attack. The only thing you’ll need to invest in is Zombucks: Currency of the Apocalypse®.

This exclusive series from Provident Metals will be produced at the Provident Mint and will honor 10 separate historical figures and coin designs, by zombifying them. A new design will be unveiled every 3 months and each release will have a limited mintage. The World Wide Web could soon be a thing of the past, so while you still have access, use our secure online purchasing system to order Zombucks® rounds today.

Meanwhile, I did a forum search to see if anyone else had started a thread about this topic. All I found was a Feb 2014 post by a drive-by spammer, and gthat post was buried in the "TSP Mint" thread, (and he was promptly banned.)

Anyway ... here's what the coins look like.

My Dad actually bought all us kids a few of these Last(?) Christmas or maybe the one before, he found them online and bought them just cause they looked cool. I can confirm their coolness factor.

Edit: I have a full collection of the "Contained" discontinued coins, the Feast, the Morque Anne (both silver and copper). My sister and I both have 5 Buffs, 5 Walker and 5 Morque Anne (all silver).

I never looked them up after he gave them to us, thought he was just being funny so I stuck them in my safe.... No I know Daddy was making a small investment for us. He is such a goof.

I guess I am the only one who thinks they are gross.  I think the American Silver Eagle is one of the pretties coins as is the Britanica.  I also think the Libertad is pretty nice.

No, you are not the only one.

They're supposed to be gross. They are meant as satire. :)

???  Yes, I guess that there is some coolness just for having a zombie coin.  But I wouldn't consider these as something that would have value if the SHTF.  Base cost is more than double what you can get silver eagles or rounds for.  If I were to buy one, it would be just one for the conversation piece.

It's all about the coolness factor for me... :zombie:

I also picked up a key chain with the same print for $7. ( not silver)

I thought they were really cool, and limited runs (I forget the specifics but it was until sold out never to be minted again) were appealing, but then they decided that they'd sell the proofs separately and kinda killed the point of limited runs, IMO.

I don't think they're the prettiest out there, but as satire, I think they work great.
