DIY Esbit Stove Fuel!
« on: November 22, 2014, 03:08:58 AM »

I make these with tea light candles and cotton balls.
You basically just put some cotton balls in one of the little metal cups from a tea light candle and pour melted wax over it and pack it all together.
To light it, you have to take a knife or something and pull some of the cotton/wax mixture up so the flame can catch something.

The flame gets significantly larger than what's in the picture as it spreads over the surface area of the wax and cotton. I can pretty quickly get a two cup pot of water boiling over one.

Works great with lighter or matches , I have used my own as fireplace starters for some time to make use of old candles..be careful melting wax as it IS flammable...a double boiler is best.

And a double boiler on a camp stove well away from the house is even better. ;)

I'd get one anyways just because they're dirt cheap and super handy!

Made my own with a canned chicken can , 4 1/2 in X 2 inches deep...just cut out a couple of slots in the top rim...

\OH yea, and the cotton/candle works great...watch out for synthetic cotton...
