Ten-Tec Argonaut V reveiw
« on: February 02, 2015, 09:59:32 AM »
I've been playing with a Argonaut V for the last 2 weeks. I like this radio enough that I'm buying it from my friend. It does about 90 plus % of what I want in a low power radio. What I miss is the monitor function like I have on my Paragon 1. It is not my first choice for portable because of it's size and 500 ma draw typical on receive, but I'm not likely to do much portable work any more. The Radio has a killer DSP that can very the band width as needed, a high stability oscillator, SSB upper or lower in any band, ALC, and forward and reverse power reading on the meter. There is far less confusion when using the function keys then when I'm using my IC 706MIIg.
It does everything my Paragon does on digital. 20 watts is about what everyone runs on PSK31 or Olivia in difference to their finals.
Right now Ten-Tec is selling the latest Argonaut for about 850 dollars. Now if I can just find a matching antenna tuner for it. 73
