awesome holiday butter cookie recipe
« on: December 30, 2016, 03:42:20 PM »
My sister made these butter cookies that I have always loved and I took them
home on the plane after Christmas mom frosted them yesterday
and we ate all of them by noon today.

Here is the recipe .. Mom got out the old card that has the recipe
that is tattered and not fully readable but she explained it all from
memory. She has been cooking these cookies on the holidays for 60 years or so.

These are the best cookies I have ever had. I planned to eat a few a day since I am trying to cut my cholesterol intake but I could not resist eating them at a much faster rate

holiday butter cookie recipe

2 & 1/4 cups sifted enriched flour (using a flour sifter)
1 & 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup butter (real butter)
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs un beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

sift together flour and baking powder
cream butter (with spoon), add sugar and mix well
add eggs and vanilla and blend well
add sifted dried ingredients (baking powder and flour) gradually mixing well
chill thoroughly at least 4 hours
roll out very thin on a on wooden well floured board
cut out with flowered dusted cookie cutters

place on a lightly buttered baking sheet
and bake in a pre heated oven at 400 degrees about 6 to 8 minutes
until brown around the edges

remove from the oven and when cooled decorate with confectionery sugar mixed
with a little bit of milk

note: take portions of dough from the refrigerator gradually when
rolling out because when it starts to soften it sticks to the board.
