My best friend...Calvin..
« on: September 19, 2017, 09:57:59 PM »
He's a 110 pounds of Golden retriever joy, but he's 8 years old and his hips are showing signs of stress...any help I'd love...

Any NSAIDs or OTC pain meds, or is there a  perception for a dog? Aspirin, maybe?

Ya gotta post a pic of "Calvin"!!

You will have to see a vet, but I highly recommend Meloxicam. I would ask for generic human pills instead of ghd liquid which was more.. way more.. expensive. It is a nonsteroidal anti-Inflammatory drug that I have seen work miracles in dogs (and humans)..

Is their a vet in this forum that can help?
It's hard for him just to go outside, a car ride we've not done since thanksgiving
2016..I'm not sure how to get him to a vet.

Thanks cedar, for the information.

Anybody have meloxicam? I can pay, silver/gold or beans/rice.

We have a vet around here who makes house calls. Maybe you do too.

Best of luck.

Not sure if it will help and may depend on how bad the hips are, but I have an older dig with stiff joints.  I give her 4 arnica and a 2 tsp of a product called Phytoflex, both morning and evening.  Seems to help her a lot.

Not sure if it will help and may depend on how bad the hips are, he shows no sign of pain, but very slow to get up at times, the last 30 days he has been very hesitant to go down the 4 steps to the backyard, sometimes jumping down from step 2, he goes up the steps fine.but I have an older dig with stiff joints.  I give her 4 arnicaarnica Montana? I have some of that and a 2 tsp of a product called Phytoflex, found that at chewy.com for $43 2 pounds both morning and evening.  Seems to help her a lot.

Thanks

Yep, arnica Montana.  I just use the hylands homeopathic 30x. Same stuff I use when my old abused bod is aching.  :)

Hope it helps.

Ryamadyl.
But he needs to loose weight. 110 is to big for any golden. Not trying to be mean.

Diet change could definitely be helpful.  I feed mine all raw and really think it's the way to go if you can.

Calvin's been on the phytoflex for a week and it works  ;D he's going down the steps with no hesitation and no more jumping from the 2nd step. Also his hair is getting really soft.
