Getaway Vehicle

What vehicle can withstand an EMP attack if:

  • The grid goes down and electric devices are disabled.
  • I seek to transport 2 adults, 3 kids and a duffel bag of supplies

I'm told cars after 1982 are all out of the question and motorbikes also after a certain similar year are all no-good.  I'd love to know:
  • What types of vehicles will work
  • Model #s recommended for above passenger load

Thank you so, so much!

It really has not been proven that any vehicle will be disabled by EMP as they have a built in faraday cage around the electronics and are insulated from ground by rubber tires PLUS they do not have large antennas connected to catch the EMP pulse unless you are recharging your plug in electric auto.
But if movies count as research, I would buy an early 80's diesel auto with mechanical fuel injection and suffer the miserable maintenance of the past.

Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks or equivalent vans from 1989 to 1998 with the Cummins 12 valve. 1998.5 and later models have computer controlled injection pumps. I've read that it's possible to convert the 1998.5 to 2007 year model 24 valve ISB engines to the earlier P7100 mechanical injection pump, but I've not looked into it to see what is required or to verify that it is possible.
