The main purpose of PulsePoint Respond is to send alerts to CPR-trained people when someone nearby needs CPR.

There's more to it than that, and you can use the service to keep informed of medical and fire department activity in your area, even if you're not CPR-certified.  It only works if your local agency has signed up (and paid) for the service, but quite a few are now connected.

Website version (a quick way to check whether your local agency is listed):

Android app:

iOS app:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pulsepoint/id500772134?mt=8

There's also a companion app, PulsePoint AED, that anyone can use to document the location of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators).

I have this app and it's great. I have it set to notify me about fires in my area. Living in a severe drought area of SoCal, it gives me some peace of mind.

Very cool idea.  I’m trying to think of unexpected second- and third-order effects to this.  Could it be used to seduce people into believing they were needed to a remote location where they could be robbed/hurt?  But the downside risks seem pretty acceptable for the amount of good something like this can do.

Cool App. Hope my area picks it up.

Same here, I've been looking for a reliable app for tracking fires in the area, and the traffic collisions would be a nice bonus.
