2003 Tundra frame and body mounts
« on: October 10, 2018, 02:22:51 PM »
I have a 2003 tundra truck with a 1,100 pound camper on it. I brought it to the repair place I have gone to for years because the rear differential joint has been leaking fluid. Mr J over there told me that the body mounts and other things are showing signs of rust and that he might consider getting a new truck at some point. I called my other friend who works in the industry and he says J is kind of a perfectionist and not to worry about it. He says he will take a look sometime. New Tundra trucks go for 30K and finding uses ones is not always easy to find, although now a days using websites to find used trucks I suppose can be easier.

I fully expect repairs on my truck can be expensive. I told J that I would like to keep the truck for another 10 or 15 years but he seems to think 4 years is more realistic.

My other friend also says he knows a guy that does frame repairs

The frame was replaced probably 10 years ago by Toyota on a frame recall

Right now they are trying to locate used parts or a used rear end axle to fix it so I should find out tomorrow on that

Go hit up Toyota, take it to corporate and have them replace the frame again.
A lot of phone calls, emails, and letters cost a lot less than a new truck.

Really, that's interesting .. I had never thought of that.

You can pick up a nice 1st gen (01-06 I think) Tundra, with 4.7 V8, crew cab, for like $8k around here. Probably not worth all the trouble fixing new rear end, and frame. But if it's just body mounts, that's easy.
But I'd Craigslist it, I had 2 buddies sell nice ones for around that price. Both really liked the trucks. One had to get a Landcruiser 100 to fit his second kid, and the other wanted a diesel.

I was told the frame is not a problem but the body mounts are getting rusty. My friend may have a look later today ..
