External cell phone antennas?
« on: October 16, 2018, 10:43:53 AM »
I wonder,  have they any merit for emergencies?
AFAIK they rely on induction to provide what effect they do.
Some attach to the headphones port and I bet their wire is connected to the ground,  much like your headphones acting as an antenna for the phones FM radio.
Ergo one could build his own etc etc.
What do you think?

I think that if the professor could build a radio from a diamond necklace and two coconuts that he should have been able to patch the hole in the boat.

All I know is that my cell has one line of signal indication in the apartment I presently rent.
Which becomes three lines when I take it in my hand. As expected.

But without my PC the phone has become my primary web device.  I use it with an external speaker on the table,  so I think I would benefit with any kind of antenna.

Not completely in line with post but I thought you guys might be interested.
Using a trick Carl taught me I tested to see if I could get a better cell signal with a plug in adapter.

Did not seem to work with cell but I was able to get the FM radio to work on internal speakers real well. So I sacrificed a pair of ear buds and it worked too

Just sharing

Nice.  Exactly what I mentioned in my first post.
