Fenced area with wire roof to keep out deer & critters ?
« on: August 31, 2019, 04:14:07 PM »
If you had an area that was say 12 x 12 with a 7 foot high fence and a wire roof so it was completely enclosed; would that work to keep out deer and other critters ? I would probably grow stuff like romaine, chard, squash, zucchini, tomatoes etc

I wonder if the deer would try to jump over it without realizing there was a wire roof and get caught in the wire or destroy the thing. Maybe something like a clear plexus glass would work for a roof ?

I would think you would want to use a thicker wire for the roof.  From my understanding, deer are hesitant jumping into something they are unsure of.  So as long as they see something on top, they'll think twice about making the leap.

I few other options that may be cheaper:
1. You could put the 12x12 garden in a hoop house/greenhouse.  This guy built a 12x16 cattle panel hoop house.  There are a ton of these on Youtube.

2. T-posts with monofilament/fishing line.
