Butt Out - Field dressing tool for deer...

Neat idea!  To avoid having to cut through the pelvic bone on a deer and/or cut around the anus to "detach" the end of the intestine from the carcass, you simply insert this tool in the anus (of the deer), twist and pull.  It inverts the last few inches of intestines and pulls it out through the anus so you can tie it off, snip it off so it is no longer "connected to the deer, then proceed with normal opening of the gut and remove the intestines without fear of puncture by a slip of your blade.  Here's their video...

My best friend works at a Gastro unit of a local hospital. They have some pretty off color jokes and I can't wait to forward this video to the unit. Those GI docs are pretty funny folks and I bet they reply with LMAO (pun intended).

Serisouly, that looks like a great tool. Thanks for the heads up.

Well, I KNOW if I was a prison guard I'd have one of these hanging from a belt keeper!  That'd keep the "respect" in the yard if you know what I mean!  But it is a neat concept, makes you wonder about the guy who thunk it up though, doesn't it?

I have seen these around for a little while now, has anyone ever actually used one?
I believe its a one time use only right?

No, I didn't read any of this. I just finished reading about the Potato Soup receipe and thought it funny (odd) that this subject would come up right after that one.   ;D

It's multiple use.

I don't own one, though I have seen them used.

simply insert this tool in the anus (of the deer), twist and pull.

Thank you kind sir for specifying. You may have just helped avoid some very confused (and quite uncomfortable) hunters. ;)

Not for me, just more stuff to carry.
Then again, I don't cut through the pelvic bone anymore either. It leaves a sharp bone. I've cut myself several times that way.
I just use the ol' fasioned method.

Gave the original version a try last week for the first time on a buck I took. I wasn't too impressed and as stated above, just one more thing to carry. In my opinion its not necessary.

I used one on a Blackbear my friend and I took earlier this year, and well it worked like a charm. Definitely get the newer one, as the old one really didn't pull its own weight. It made field dressing that sucker a breeze. A handy little tool indeed!

This tool is heaven sent in my opinion.  The way I was brought up (not the gospel by any means), you had to cut around the anus with your knife, tie it off with a bread tie (so as not to spread fecal matter in body cavity) and pull it back through the pelvis and empty it out with the innards.  With this tool, you simply insert, twist and pull.  We usually get over a foot of the rectum/intestines coming out with it and no fecal matter in the body cavity.  Money well spent in this cowobys opinion!

My family, the jokers that they are, got me 3 for Christmas last year. Everone had a good laugh.

I have to say I tried it out and it works ok, but you can do just as good of a job without it. Just so you know I have done 3 with the tool and about 15 with out.

I am with most of you slitting the pelvis is not needed
