The reviews for the martin bow seem good, the pse impala has decent reviews as well, though slightly worse. I heard someone say martin would make a better bow than pse. The jag I think is just coming out or the production is being scaled up maybe. They had showed me the display model at a shop in maine, but they are not selling them until september if they cut a deal with martin I guess.
Could a 50 pound recurve shoot wooden arrows ? Is it hard to buy arrow blanks and put the feathers on and would you save much doing that ?
PSE bows are okay. I had a PSE Kudu 50#er. The Martin will be a little more refined, which basically just means it'll be prettier & more finished looking. The limbs on the lower end PSE's aren't what I would consider nice looking. Pretty plain as a matter of fact.
You can shoot wooden arrows out of any trad bow. In the long run, even though carbon arrows are more expensive initially, they'll last you longer than wooden arrows. I build wooden arrows because I like doing it, & I like my arrows to be exactly as I want them. I don't do it because it's cost effective, I do it because it's a hobby I can spend time doing.
I'm still not sure if a 40 pound pull is too light, maybe it is I guess ..
Consider this when deciding on what poundage you want to go with on your first bow. A lower poundage will allow you to practice form & drawing to anchor much more easily than a heavier poundage bow.
Form & drawing to anchor are IMO the two most important factors for new archers. Without understanding & mastering these two things you'll have a tough time becoming, & staying proficient. Trad archery is very much about muscle memory.
