That's a pretty cool song.

Ah, Samuel Adams will forever be seen with a beer in his hand I suppose.  ;D

This is a really great survival-themed song:

California Riots by Jamey Johnson:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIkPNIS8MNE#

It's about ... you guessed it.

Here's a few lines from it:

Where you gonna be when half of California riots
Where you gonna run to when the lights go out.
Well I won't be hangin' out in California, I won't try it.
Buddy I'll be up and headed [back to Alabama].

Oh, and Jamey Johnson is the new Waylon Jennings.  And I say that with extreme reverence to Waylon.  Waylon's son Shooter Jennings puts out some great stuff but Jamey Johnson takes the cake on being the new Waylon.

You might be interested in the ten-book prepper novel series called 299 Days.  I, like, wrote it and stuff.  Prepper Press is publishing it.  Seriously.  Check out www.299Days.com.

Anyone get into Chris Knight?  I download this song pre-release from iTunes months ago.   Just listened to it again this morning, and it dawned on me the lyrics are dead on for this thread.   I'm a HUGE Chris Knight fan....have been for years.   Many of his songs go directly to "salt of the earth" living.   Just a country boy banging away.....rock/country themed.    If you like this, look up his song "Down the River" it is the one that hooked me.

Album version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u56CfaUBWI

Earlier acoustic version  (some different lyrics):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2io5wQt4jak

Draw the Line

"Sometimes I wonder where my next dollar gonna come from
Keep my head up and something falls out of the sky
Daddy taught me how to use my bootstraps and carry on
He said God will be good to you son if you try

Uncle Sam comes around getting both hands in your pocket
People out there, just barely are gettin by
Render unto Caesar no more than you got to
Keep the Lord in your heart, and keep your powder dry..
But do you good in mean time
While you're waiting on a good time, draw the line.

Well you might wanna think about getting yourself a shotgun
You might wanna think about growing you a garden patch
You might have to go out and shoot something and drag it home
But don't never count your chickens before they hatch
But do you good in mean time
While you're waiting on a good time, draw the line.

I'm pretty sure that the government ain't gonna save you
The good lord helps the ones that help themselves
You wanna stand on your own 2 feet, and use some backbone
Don't go crawling on your knees, begging for help
But do you good in mean time
While you're waiting on a good time, draw the line.
Yeah in the mean time, draw the line."

Run Daddy Run by The Pistol Annies

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=its-921iBQs

Daddy can you hear the devil drawing near
Like a bullet from a gun, run daddy run.

All the songs you used to sing to me
Would rock birds to sleep
I need you now so please somehow
Put rockets on your feet

Oh oh oh oh

Daddy can you hear the devil drawing near
Like a bullet from a gun, run daddy run.

Saw that dark cloud coming from a million miles away.
Oh how I’ve dreaded this god forsaken day.

Daddy can you hear the devil drawing near
Like a bullet from a gun, run daddy run.

Mama’s been crying in the kitchen
Sister’s been afraid of the dark.
I’ve been gathering the pieces of all these shattered hearts.
And I don’t care where you go to
And I don’t care where you land
But just get out of there daddy as fast as you can

Oh, Oh, Oh

Daddy can you hear the devil drawing near
Like a bullet from a gun, run daddy run.

Run Daddy run, run daddy run, run daddy run.

I wanna be in the Cavalry

I think his Gettin' Down on the Mountain is fit for a prepper anthem.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uASQgLwaIs&list=PLDD06214E01114C9C&index=3&feature=plcp

Lyrics:

When the oil stops, everything stops, nothing left in the fountain.
Nobody wants paper money son so you just well stop countin'.
Can you break the horse, can you light the fire?
What's that, I beg your pardon?
You'd best start thinkin' where your food comes from,
And I hope you tend a good garden.

Gettin' down on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain,
Don't wanna be around when the ship goes down,
I be gettin' down on the mountain.

If the truck don't run the bread don't come,
Have a hard time finding petrol.
Water don't run in the city no more,
Do you hold any precious metal?

Can you gut the fish, can you read the sky?
What's that about overcrowdin'?
You ever seen a man whose kids ain't ate for 17 days and countin'?

Gettin' down on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain,
Don't wanna be around when the ship goes down,
I'll be gettin' down on the mountain.

There ain't no heat, and the power's gone out
Its kerosene lamps and candles.
The roads are blocked, its all gridlock
You got a shortwave handle?

Can you track the deer, can you dig a well?
I couldn't quite hear your answer.
I think I see a rip in the social fabric,
Brother can you spare some ammo?

Gettin' down on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain,
Don't wanna be around when the ship goes down,
I'll be goin' to ground on the mountain.

When the oil stops, everything stops, nothing left in the fountain.
Nobody wants paper money son, so you just well stop countin'.
Can you break the horse, can you light the fire?
What's that, I beg your pardon?
I think I see a rip in the social fabric,
Brother can you pass the ammo?

Gettin' down on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain,
Don't wanna be around when the ship goes down,
I'll be gettin' down on the mountain.
Gettin' down on the mountain, gettin' down on the mountain,
Don't wanna be around when the ship goes down,
I'll be going to ground on the mountain,
Gettin' down on the mountain.
