Cast HP
« on: August 30, 2009, 07:31:09 PM »
I had a nice run today with a 290g 44mag hollow point mold I picked up a few weeks ago.   It is a custom 2x brass mold with the hp captured pins (aka cramer style) that I ordered in a group buy via the cast boolits forum.  Made in Slovenia by "Mihec", cast from a relatively soft alloy of wheelweights and pure lead.

Nothing else to say; I took some pictures to post on CB and liked the way they turned out so I figured I'd post here too for the hell of it....

From a purely artistic point of view, those are some nice pictures.
I would like to blow up a couple of those and make posters.

From a prepper point of view, sweet!

How do the shoot/preform.  I shoot and mold alot of cast but havent gotten a hp mold yet.  Been thinking about it for awhile.  I cast for .38/.357, .44, .45acp and .500 S&W.

Every time you post about your cast 44s my heart warms a little.  Thank you for bringing some joy to the cold blowing snow.

LOL

Joe i like the lancer pointed one on the left- you need to get a patent on that one.

Performance ?  Accuracy is very good, as good as any of my cast boolits.  Generally speaking my cast loads do better than jacketed in pistol rounds; all I've ever shot in my 45-70 is my own casts.
Terminal performance? don't know, haven't done any wet packs or anything like that to test yet.  Even if the 44 HP busts up there will be another 200-230g or so punching through from the main mass of the base.

Spartan I haven't forgotten I said I'd send some of the HPs your way.  don't let me off the hook.

I'll remind you when I finally find some large pistol primers, magnum or otherwise.  They are still drying up as soon as they appear.
