Should I continue "asssclowns and heros"
« on: September 01, 2009, 10:26:26 AM »
Ok I am going to pay attention only to the actual results.  Any comments here are listener to listener, this is one of those things that I want to allow to be decided on numbers alone if they are sufficiently higher for any outcome.  I want the majority of the audience to get what they want most from me.

i like how assclowns and heros starts the show off, but i dont think it has to be everyday. Current events would be a nice way to start it off. If there is an outstanding assclown and hero, i would like to hear about it.

The clown and hero part is entertaining, I dig it, but some are better than others, theres thousands upon thousands of clown and hero candidates, so I voted to only when its a "stellar" clown or hero.
I love to hear the weather too, its interesting to think how diffrent it is somewhere else, like they say "Texas, like a whole nother country"

I turn people on to The Survival Podcast whenever I can. I think more of them would stick and become regular listeners if they didn't have to swim through the ass-clown bit.

I found TSP  (around episode 75) while trying to learn more about Permaculture. I have lots of liberal / permie-type friends and would have more success bringing in subscribers without frontloading the show with frustration and a focus on the negative.

Jack does a great job of proselytizing self-reliance and that mindset and can really attract an audience with his immense capability for gratitude and appreciation. My own interpretation of politics and governement and the world around me is coming into sharper focus as I listen to the show, so the ass-clowns are more self-evident without having to set the tone of the show with these bad role models.

I don't have a problem with it, but I would like my mother to listen and I don't think she would sit through ass-clownery.

I love your show and I thank you for asking for my input.

I voted to only have the clowns and heros segment when there something noteworthy. I don't find it necessary to have it everyday. Just if you see or hear something that is exceptional on either side, then name them the assclown or hero of the day. But I don't see a need to have it everyday day.

Thanks for asking and putting up a poll!

I love a form of current events and your opinion on why they are good or bad and how it might influence our survival tactics. Particularly on the more subtle events that are not always displayed by the media.

On the other hand if you are going in depth on a topic, the extra 10 mins can be more informational then the assclownery that has been happening.

so, I don't know what i want, i just know i enjoy your show and value your opinion. ya kept me motivated while pulling them dern weeds all summer.

Jack,

Keep it going just the way it is.

The segment really helps define related principles and viewpoints concerning survival and keeps the show in contrast with current events and the common sense side of the modern survivalist that follows the show.

This is one of my first listen to podcasts each day, along with the CBC World News.  The Assclown and heros bit is a bit over the top for me...it takes away from the main point of the show, in my mind...which is Prepping...learning about what to do in case of a natural disaster, manmade disaster or the whole hell breaks loose disaster is why we listen...permaculture, BOLs, food storage, and all the other pertinent information that you have stored up and share with us...

Love the information that you share...but not the assclown/hero segment.

I think it is fine the way it is. I like the short bit of news. Some of the stuff you have mentioned in this segment I did not know about it through conventional means. So it is informative and helpful.

I miss the political shows.  I think I was like most people and didn't like them all the time, but once in a while I'd like a show about politics or the economy.  I agree with you Jack, that an important part of prepping is knowing what's going on in the world, and I enjoy your take on it.  The assclowns and heroes portion of the show always felt like a movie trailer, I never got to the juicy bits.

It looks like the 3rd choice may win, but it is still close.

I voted to keep it as is but I'm ok with whatever is decided.
My time is not so pressing that I can't afford 2 or 3 minutes to hear Jack's opinion about who did what.
I download and listen to about 5-6 hours of audio a day, so if Jack's podcast is a little longer or shorter, I think I'll still live.
Besides, I just enjoy listening to Jack talk.  Sometimes he spouts something that I thought I was the only one who thought that way.

You might try finding another word besides "assclowns".  My wife flinched when she heard it.

Format was fine before the change and is still OK with me. I have no problem either way. The information is all good and the assclown title is a reminder that it is still one man's show downloaded and listened to on a voluntary basis.

That is not open to debate, even if I kill the segment an assclown is an assclown there is no better term I know of for it.

Censorship goes against everything I believe in.

So I say, call an assclown an assclown!

I think the segment should air when warranted. Not that there is any shortage of assclowns these days, but I dont want Jack mentioning some half-assed assclown because there was not something better that day.
Heroes are well and good too, but I have been getting more and more pessimistic lately...

Be Free Jack!  Free youself from the bonds of a format!  Say what you want when you want!!  Next thing you know people will be dictating when you can have an auto rant!!!

I say you should keep the "assclowns and heros" part of the show, but only do it if there is something noteable.  What i mean is dont do it for the sake of doing it, just talk about think that are notable or relevent

I believe that part of the reason that most of us are dedicated listeners is that we simply like Jack's style and delivery.  I don't want to put a muzzle on anything.

I like the aspect of having Jack go over a current event or two.  I'm interested to know what news sites and sources Jack reads.  I could do without hearing the word 'assclown' every episode, but I don't have a better word to use.

Auto Rants! LOVE 'EM!
I wish I had a better link than the one I post here.
Heywood Banks does a great song in his live show called "good morning bluebird" and I wish Jack could hear it.
If Heywood comes to a club near you, go see him and demand to hear this song.
