Today to prep, I put together some shelves and organized my prepper pantry!  Just got married and bought new house/sold old house in the last 3 months so just now getting around to this project when the budget finally allowed me to buy the right shelves.  What a relief to be able to find items easily when I need them...

Always a good feeling when plans and hardware are in sync....

Nice work!

Today, hubs and I did some yard weeding... my garden (small though it is) is doing very well. We have had two days of very nice rains (a rarity around here), so within a week or so the desert will be blooming and beautiful.  Picked cherries from the sweet cherry tree...

Yesterday

Lets see......
Bought dry goods for the storeroom.
Scored some more mason jars on a chance stop at a small misc/overrun sales place.
6 WM pints, 2 RM pints, 14 1/2 pints. $0.50 each.

Got quite a lot of weed tilling done in the garden yesterday evening.

Did some tending to the garden and harvested some rhubarb. Did a paint job on my Saiga 12, creating a camo pattern I had in mind for a while. Collecting some more data about the house we think of buying. The place could either be a prepper's dream or simply a nightmare to take care of.

Likely found someone who has a supply of hardox steel plates and a laser cutter and has no more use for the hardox....this could allow me to have ballistic plates made for the whole family, nearly for free. Yes, bare steel is not the ideal type of ballistic protection (my own plates have paxcon surface) but I guess the chance of being hit by bullet fragments is way much better than being hit by bullet. And while steel plates are heavier than composite plates, they have pretty much unlimited shelf life and their durability in actual use is also better, which IMO makes them ideal for a long-term stored ballistic protection that will quite likely never be used.

I think that the softer black sheath of the plates is some sort of spray-on polyurethane bedliner. You can research if you can DIY apply it.

Maybe I will. I'll see if I actually get the plates first.

Got the rest of the pepper plants mudded in.  ::) And a row of sweet taters. Also filled in some spots where the whitey taters did not come up. I switched the taters to the worst soil part of the garden, hoping taters would do ok there. Kinda spotty, but I think they will be ok if I keep the manure tea on them.

Jarred up the sweet tater and pineapple from the dehydrator.

I planted a Ben Davis apple tree to replace the Ida Red that didn’t survive the winter.  I also planted 2 Whitney crabapple trees.

Over the last few days I've added items to the storeroom, replaced the wick holder on an antique oil lamp and bought lamp oil. Also bought another oil burning table lamp. That gives us 2 full size oil lamps, a mini oil lamp and a Dietz #80 hurricane lamp.

Sounds good on the lamps. I think we're up-to-snuff on the lamps now. I need to figure out which item to concentrate on besides food.
Food is always ongoing. I probably need to sort out medical and go that direction again.

Yeah I think we're fixed on lamps, probably need another 1/2 gallon oil. USPS showed up a little bit ago with my Amazon order for the storeroom. 1lb. black pepper, 1lb. garlic powder, 1lb. mustard powder. As you say food is on going.

Now that it's 200 degrees in the shade, I need to turn......er.....shovel mine over again. My bin is the size of 2 full size pickup beds, so it doesn't get turned to often.

- glass jar
- any lard
- natural fiber string that will wick up liquid (brown twine worked great for me)

Cool. I got all that. What if my bacon fat had black pepper in it?

Just being silly here but mine does.

Thanks. Figured it was on those lines.
We have lots of lard we rendered. I'll just have to ck our current string/twine.
I have lots of polar brand fruit jars I've saved that should be perfect for the job.

Well about 2 minutes after I hit enter on my last post in this thread we had a power outage.

So after a bit I decided to work on my preps knowing that the outages usually don't last more than 1 1/2 hours unless it is storm caused.

I grabbed the oil lamps and started to fill them. The new one first. It is a made in China lamp. Well the wick holder won't tighten on the base. I had the large threaded ring from the other lamp as I didn't need it there. Worked OK but won't screw on the new lamps wick holder. All visually the same. Ended up saying I'd trash the lamp as a new wick holder costs as much as I paid for the lamp. Relatively cheap but that would double the cost of the lamp.

Ended up with the antique lamp, new wick that fit, and as far as I know that was the first time on over 70 years, maybe close to 100 that the lamp has been lit.

Didn't need the lamp power back in exactly 1 1/2 hr. by my solar powered watch.
