Got a first aid kit from CVS to add to the GHB, also put in some range time with the pistol.

Today I managed to go through my GHB and my car emergency kit. Replaced some expired food and added some cold weather items. We picked up these 20" yellow glow sticks around the 4th of July, figured they would be great or waving down help or signaling other motorists. Also would work for strapping to the back of your pack if you found yourself walking down a dark road. Rotated out the old MRE's that been in the GHB for spring summer and fall. They were at about 50%, with some stuff being OK to eat, and some stuff being bad. Not bag considering they survived crazy temps through the summer with the air temps hitting 105 here, I would assume the inside of the car was pushing 180 at least.

Also picked up several canned items at the store, signed up for 13skills, and made an awesome dinner with the wife.

I have not reported in quite some time, so I will try and summarize everything I've done in the last couple of weeks.

1) I rounded out my gun arsenal with a Glock 19 purchase. I was really sweating the decision after having a heated discussion with my wife. But, I have to do what I have to do. Plus, that is my Xmas gift to myself! ;-)
2) I purchased extra ammo for my yet-to-be-shot M&P15 OR.
3) I bought a two point sling for the M&P15.
4) I reviewed my food stores and pulled out everything that is nearly past its best by date. The spreadsheet is updated to reflect these subtractions.
5) I started my generator and chain saw.
6) I refilled four X 5 gallon jerrycans with gasoline.
7) I got my gun records together in one place and put in the fire safe.
8) I put together a packing checklist in excel. This will really help me when I travel. I plan more checklists in the future.
9) I cut my EDC backpack from 22 lbs to 17 lbs by taking out redundant and unnecessary stuff.

Now, I just need to finalize my list of 13-in-13 list and sign up.

Began making my own tea bags. I found a place that sells empty tea bags and I have been adding in my own dried peppermint and stapling them shut. They work perfectly good, 100% homegrown, and they are a big hit with the yuppies/hipsters at work.

I'm going to grow 5 times the peppermint this spring and see about camomile and other types of teas; people are already trying to place advance orders!

Sweet!

I work with a bunch of tea snobs and claim the staples give an off taste and metals in the staples yadda yadda yadda. I never noticed. You could "up" sell them, buy bulk and sell to your tea customers, and get the reusable stainless steel tea balls/spoons (Amazon carries and other places for like 2 bucks). Then just sell the tea in bags/tins. less work for you.

Also there are rose hips (the fruit after a rose blooms) and Valerian root tea good for sleep.

We have our own medicinal herb gardens and are experimenting with different herbs/teas.

Lemon balm is also good and easy to grow, and lemon grass. Raspberry tea and can use the canes from raspberry bushes.  Purple cone flower is good and easy too.

I mounted a scope rail and a reflex sight on my 870 shotgun. I was planning to go to the gun range on Saturday, but another duty prevailed. I need to get in my wife's good graces again. ;-)

Attempted to help my grasshopper uncle see the ways of the ant.  I wont give up but the world does need Grasshoppers.

I started one of my 13 of 2013 tasks.  I put together the components for home made laundry detergent.  Now it is sitting for the required 24 hours at which time I will finish it tomorrow and we will have 10 gallons of laundry soap.  After doing some calculations I will have made 10 gallons of laundry soap for a cost of $1.58 which will give me 160 loads of laundry.  This further breaks down to a years worth of laundry for my household.  Further saving us &177.62 if we purchased our former laundry soap to accomplish the same amount of laundry.  I am very excited for this.

My wife is concerned that it will run or fade the colors but I think we should be fine.  If anyone has any thoughts feel free to PM me.

Went to a local hamfest.  Learned a lot, met a few folks.
Build it or buy it, start it up and try it, maybe even fry it.  Otherwise you'll never know if it works.

Butchered our chickens.  It was our first time and turned out to be very educational, a little sad, and in the end successful.  We'll get more layers in the spring, but for now all the birds are in the freezer.

Prayed.
Refined plans for 13skills goals. (I love how fluid it can be if plans must be altered)
Refining sun oven cooking skills (although it is a bit overcast with rain expected :/ )
Working on several other planned skills today as well.
