Discussed pet's deaths with my 3 year old today when we had to bury our dog who died last night. We buried him on the farm. RIP "Cyrus".

Woke up wide awake at 4 am for some unknown reason. So it's 7 now and I've already gotten my run in. I finished up lesson plans and the first day of school is neatly laid out on the table. Starting preschool with the youngest, so I've got 3 whole students now!
I've seen the village and I don't want it raising my children.

I added a scope mount and reflex sight to my Remington 870. I finally got around to editing the video and posted it today on my blog here.

researched tires for one of my cars. the current ones are bald and i really don't want to deal with a flat/blowout... or have my wife driving when that happens.

i discovered i can get them from one of the local tire shops as opposed to a chain for only slightly more money, but the tires are WAY better than what i could get from a chain. so i'm getting better tires and supporting a local business... win/win!

So, I am talking to my wife this evening and lamenting the fact that our frying pans are all worn out and the surfaces are no longer non-stick. I tell her I am buying a new frying pan so I can cook my turkey bacon and eggs every morning. I then say what I really want is a cast iron pan that I can season and use every day.

She then goes into a cabinet and pulls out an old, cast iron pan passed down from her mother and grandmother. We have been married for almost three years and together almost five years. I have never seen that pan before. If I had, I would have snatched it up and used it.

So, I now have an old, cast iron pan to season and use. SCORE!

The offer on the 40 acre property next to the 60 acres that Z's parents put in next to Z's farm has been accepted. So now we have the perfect place for the B&B setting and 100 acres to play with.

Thanks.. I said that kinda weird though. Z bought 60 acres and his parents bought/offer accepted the 40 acres next door.

Picked up 300 rds 22 ammo and a 50 round mag for 10/22. Did some practice drills with Glock 27. Printed off a bunch of food storage recipes for binder.

I ran 5 miles, bought some dehydrated wassabee peas to go in some rice storage, and reorganized some of our more critical food storage into 7 free milk crates . received the Steve recommended battery charger and batteries . set up a digital antenna on our tv, and showed the wife how to switch from satellite to free tv . man the picture on the digital antenna is better than the SAT picture!

Today was a busy day. Read a lot on trapping and hunting. Had a massive workout. Canned about 8lbs of carrots, still in the canner actually. Had dinner with a friend that is part of our prepping plan. Picked up some extra tea bags and such. Grabbed another free gift card. Reorganized the gear in the car. Made a hard list of stuff to do before the baby comes. Learned a lot more about my diabetes. Weighed in and lost another 4.1 pounds  ;D. Found a new indoor place to walk for the winter. Found out about a new 24/7 gym coming to our city!

Started planning an improvement project at the cabin to greatly reduce reliance on the outside world.  Details to follow.

You might be interested in the ten-book prepper novel series called 299 Days.  I, like, wrote it and stuff.  Prepper Press is publishing it.  Seriously.  Check out www.299Days.com.

I did an initial cleaning and lubricating of my new AR-15 in preparation to going to the range tomorrow. I also installed Troy Iron sights and a sling. I was taking video of the process, but it turned out crappy when a couple things did not work right (damn butter fingers and lock-tight). I then ran out of video card space (drat), so the video just plain sucks.

I was working in the garage since the wife was home and the pictures did not come out well either (double drat). I will have to get some better pictures next week while she is at work. ;-)

So, tomorrow looks to be cold and rainy in Houston, but I am still going to the range to try out my new shotgun optics, new AR, new Glock 19 and some new magazines for my Kahr PM9. So, I am going to burn through some ammo tomorrow. I'll have to limit my .223 to 40-60 rounds since all I have is 200, but I have plenty of 9 mm and plenty of shotgun ammo as I stocked up prior to the recent run on ammo. I am kicking myself for not buying more .223 prior to Xmas, but am lucky to have the 200 rounds I do have. I also bought five - 30 round magazines as well. I wish I bought two more Glock 19 magazines, but I did not. Oh well, I consider this a learning experience and won't get caught again without ammo and magazines once the current craze dies down.

  • Fenced a half an acre for the draft horses for a temp home which should be coming up to the farm next weekend. Moved the HEAVY HEAVY cast iron bathtub from the former house for a stock waterer.
  • Electrical piping stuff arrived at the farm for the new house.
  • Helped a friend with canning advice on chicken soup and ham & bean soup.
