Scoured Amazon. Found nothing. Closest was a Fiskars splitting axe. I think I own 5 axes and 5 replacement handles already. There was a sale at Fleet Farm and I got set for life. Good deal on a cheapo Husqvarna chainsaw too but do I need a backup chainsaw...

Lots of deals on flashlights if you're in the market for a new one.

I also scoured Amazon. Found nothing in Grocery or Kitchen that fit into our storage needs.  :(

I usually find something. From a blender to a carpet cleaner there's almost always an aha. This year fell flat. Even my wife texted me that she's not finding a deal. I have the disease my grandfather had of always finding something in the hardware store but this year... I don't know. Maybe I've changed or maybe it was a bad year for people like me. Glad to hear I'm not alone.

Made ten boxes for quart mason jars from scrap 1/2" sheeting. They hold a dozen each, like the original cardboard boxes.
I can't see paying $14.00 for those plastic containers you can buy for jars now.

Amazon is doing free shipping with no minimum purchase temporarily. Just FYI. At least they were yesterday.

Took advantage of the sales on turkey just before Thanksgiving and bought 2 turkey breast for 37 cents a lb. Got them in freezer and will be canning them after the holidays. Also oven canned 15 lbs of flour and put up 25 lbs of rice in mylar with 02 aborbers in my plastic buckets. Now it's time to get things ready for Christmas. Lots to do.

We can more and more different items each year, and buy less canned goods.
But when do need commercially canned good, we hit Aldi's and buy by the case.
Usually 60-70-80 cents per can.

Today I transferred items from the storeroom to the pantry in the house, trying to keep it stocked.

Got another load of composted (i.e. from the back of the pile) horse manure from the stables down the road.  Started dragging brush off the brush pile to stack up in a low spot in the yard then started covering it with manure.  Today hubby called a local tree guy who is very happy to drop wood chips anytime we want them.  So in the next few days we will start covering that pile with chips....then go get more manure and keep the layers going.  Should be an amazing growing bed in a few years.....and an okay one this year.  All of this is/was free :)

I've got several pepper and onion plants inside for the winter. Sort of just surviving. Don't know if I should add a fertilizer. They are in cloth grow bags in a Wisconsin southern facing window.

Maybe a dab of liquid fertilizer along with the water.

I added non-911 numbers for the local fire, and police, stations to our phones in the event that 911 emergency call service goes down. (http://thesurvivalpodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=63718.0)

Added 2 gal. cooking oil we got for a very good price, 6pk. Jiffy Mix muffins free with coupon and $20 purchase, couple lbs. of pasta at a good price all to the stash. Anything else bought, veggies and smoked sausage, was just to make the minimum purchase to get the Jiffy Mix.

Wife has been dehydrating the sprouting onions.
Also making hash browns out of the sprouting taters. Bag and freeze.
Our food saver croaked today. Sealing strip burnt out.....or something related.

I think FS is on the lower lower lowest tier of vacuum baggers.

Good on the onions and hash browns.

I don't know anything about vacuum sealer but had the impression FS was one of the better ones.

Might look into hash brown myself, got 4 or 5 pounds that are starting to sprout.

Don't think my shoulder is up to peeling and grating 5 lbs. of potatoes. Fixing food processor is a current working wood project. Don't ask.

I bake them in a camping dutch oven partially done (after peeling) and cool them down, slice them and freeze them.

Took advantage of several sales and got some gun accessories quite cheaply, as well as some mag pouches and other tactical nylon.

Since I have trouble anymore turning cornbread out of a cast iron skillet, takes two hands, one for the skillet one for the board. I decided to order an 8" square cast iron baking pan for cornbread. Found it on the porch this morning. Also yesterday I ordered some fruit roll sheets for my dehydrator in order to take advantage of sales and loss leader coupons on eggs. Tracking says they will show up today. The pan wasn't supposed to be here until the middle of next week.

Since I now work far from home I took he time to make a mobilization plan /Bugout checklist.
I did not got into checking alternate roots,  but I have a rough idea of secondary route options, all but a small part of the way...  And I am already good on region maps.

BTW for the first time I feel I'm in an American, s shoes. I am more than half a gas tank away if  to take a long way around.
Seems I should look into bus options for the last third of my route.

Got in an order of Augason Farms #10 cans. I'm pretty well set on having a 2-year supply with most things I think. A few items, like wheat berries, are well over 2 years.
Maybe 8-10 years
