started on cleaning up the travel trailer so I have it available for possible fire evacuation needs

History:  I had one of my offspring buy it for me about 3 1/2 years ago ( I paid for it, offspring took possesion), it turned into a big "thing" with offsprings spouse on the day of purchase.  That whole thing caused me to have a TIA and other various health problems resulting... to say that I was disheartened is an understatement, but I paid, since I then out of commision to drive it, to have it professionally hauled to my place and parked it and ignored it.  Took all the fun out of it for me.

It was actually a reasonable, working trailer when I got it and it would be a shame to have it die from neglect, so I am going to revive it.  Luckily, it has not developed any leaks over the years here, it is watertight ! It is very dirty on the outside from being parked under the pine tree.

I need to figure out how to check out all systems, make sure tires are still ok, etc, etc....  When I got it, the refrigerator and stove had just been used by the previous owners, they had taken it deer hunting in the fall, last hurrah, right before selling it.  And it made the trip from out of state to here with flying colors, simple tow on its own wheels.

So, first thing was sweeping the floor, cobwebs out, hearing the rustling -- a rat (at least) had moved in and I set out my electric rat trap.  Checked back in an hour, and had the dead rat.  It was one of our native wood rats, an adult which means its as big as a squirrel, hanging out past the end of the electric box trap.  Re-set trap in case there is another.

Dont have a picture -- my hosting I used for here is gone.  It is a vintage 1966 Aladdin Sultans' castle, the more unusual layout, about 16ft long.  Like this one, but mine is a little newer with an upgraded kitchen layout and larger double sink in the corner  https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=2360712567341302&set=pcb.1393383604149726

Since things smell of a BIG recession in Greece coming winter (as many people will be out of their summer jobs and winter unemployment benefits), I am filling-in holes in my preps.
yesterday I bought some first aid and PPE equipement, next week I will be buying some solar small panels. Next month some LiFePo54 batteries to double my ham go box capacity.

Mrs. ChEng ordered some cloth masks from someone that she watches on YouTube. We have some of the disposable masks, but they don't hold up very well. So, we decided to get some cloth. Plain black for me, and "USA" masks for her (my patriotic wife - she was also in the USAF, and like me is proud of being a veteran.   :happydance: )

Finally set up my reloading in a new spot, reloaded couple dozen 9mm to get used to the new setup. I ran a bunch of brass through the cleaner today, hope to reload later tonight. Cast some bullets, part of a long way to recreate an obsolete caliber, mainly just out of curiosity than for use.

Planted some dill (Anethum graveolens) today. Hope it grows well, as we like to use it a lot for Ukraine cuisine.
Iroquiz corn is growing nicely.
Hokkaido pumpkin seeds have also sprouted well.
Habanero seeds seem to have some trouble, so far only 3 of 6 pots show some progress.
Also, 4 of 5 transplanted wild raspberry plants seem to live.
Strawberries are doing well.
Potatoes have shown no interest in growing so far, but with the recent rain, they might have chaged their opinion.

Habanero's like a very warm  environment  to sprout.
Potatoes seem to get lazy coming up sometimes. I need to research that sometime.

Yeah, I thought I'll just try the Habaneros, as this Spring was foreseen as very hot and dry. Just heard that we should expect snow on Monday :D The habanero pots are in a glassed front porch, so they have sort of greenhouse and lots of light. Will see.

Sounds good. I started just a few this year, as we have a dozen jars of smoked/dried ones we'll probably never use all of. Some fresh ones for pickling okra will be nice though.

Planted another 25' row of pole beans.
Also got in two 25' rows of hilled cantaloupe seeds, before the %$@# got our backs wet.
Back doing some shuffling in the storeroom.

Dug out the dead raspberry and replaced it with two fresh that we brought from a trip to the woods. Really curious if we manage to start a wild raspberry plantation here :)
Practiced forging nails and forge-welding.
Made three pairs of shoes this week, likely my record.

Two more 25' rows (32 plants) of Roma tomatoes.
Got another row prepared. Trying to get more in before the &^%$ starts again.
Calling for *^@# through most of the week.

Practiced handplaning wood today....not like I had a non-hand option, anyway :D
Also working on a custom reproduction of an early 19th century voyageur canoe-cup with rich decoration, so plenty of carving practice as well.
Customized a cheap machete into a really nice and handy one....reshaped the ugly oversized wooden handle to fit my hand much better, beltsanded the rivets smooth with the scales, dyed and oiled the scales for a little extra look. Also modified the blade shape to utilize more of the end portion of the edge, took some unnecessary weight off the tip and properly sharpened the whole thing (really, is there a worldwide plot to sell all machetes completely dull and with no real edge??). Now I like it enough to think about making a leather sheath for it. Will see about that yet.
Took advantage of a customer discount to get a 9mm conversion barrel for my TT-33, only paying like $60 for it. More fun and practice with easier to reload caliber.
Not much going on at the garden recently...it's finally been raining, but it was very cold this week at the same time. No sign of potatoes doing anything, 4 out of 20 or so onions have shown any sprouting, garlic is completely concealed still. Raspberry transplantation looks quite optimistic.

In Walmart today, buying supplies and looked over the plant selection.
Looking for sweet potato slips as ours are  way behind. So not seeing any, I spied a watermelon pot with 4  plants in it. Normally one at 2.39? so I grabbed it.
Brought it home and split the plants, and put them in one of the unused pig pens.
I haven't grew watermelon in ages.

We dug out and brought home some of the medicinal herbs from our old place to the current place. Hope to replant them to our new garden. Alo brought home some flint, as I have a nice supply there. Want to learn more about flintknapping. Not like I really believed it had much use in survival, but it's always nice to develope another skill. Also brough some parts I've gathered there for making my own crank-powered apple shredder (to make apple juice). I met a guy who welds stainless, so I hope that he helps me building the body for the machine. Most of the other parts are already there (or can be made/finished by myself).

Rain settled and quit, so I got another 35' row of Mortgage Lifter tomatoes in.
Plus a mystery tomato, that came up in our pepper seedlings.

Finally bought two new window air conditioners, the old ones were 20 years old. The new ones do all the thinking for you. The old ones required continuous adjustment. I don't know what to do with the old ones, might just junk them out for scrap, probably worth about $0.12 total. Scrap iron is way down. Restore won't take them. I hate Craigslist.
Changed blades and readjusted the settings on the bandsaw again. A 12 inch Delta, it is set on wheels to move around.
Wife's birthday, no restaurants are open, not so good beef at $9-12 a lb so I got some closeout pork chops and vacuum sealed them in a concoction of brown sugar, salt, black & red pepper, smoked paprika, ginger for a day. Turned out very good.
Chopped and froze onions, bananas.

Carver, would it be that you could use those ac's in your shop?

I picked up a 20.00 garage sale one a few years ago and put it in my storeroom. I can leave the door cracked open and it will cool my shop also, as long as I leave it closed up.

I think we have all the medical items we've wanted to keep.
Gauze and tape, antibiotic cream, burn cream.......band aids.
