Edible Forest Gardens - 2 book series
« on: September 14, 2009, 08:18:19 PM »
These two books are amazing:

Edible Forest Gardens (2 book set) by David Jacke

VERY detailed and a bit pricey.  But WOW!  You may have to be a bit of a gardening nerd to read every page (guilty!)
Volume 1 gives the why for everything in Forest Gardening.
If you just want a how to, read volume 2.

If you are serious about creating a forest garden in a temperate environment (most of the U.S. at a minimum), then these books are a must read.

Here is his official website with free updates to the appendices in the backs of the books.

I requested that my local library purchase them. They did! The books are good for outside of temperate areas as well, since there is a bunch of plant overlap and the overall concepts are sound.

Awesome resources!

I agree great books!  I took a course with the author Dave Jackie at Oikos Tree Crops.  I believe that they sell them for a reasonable price.

Where ever you find, very good resources to have if you want a forest garden or food producing trees.

I just used the "Contact" link on www.edibleforestgardens.com to encourge Dave Jacke to do an interview for TSP. Maybe with enough encouragement we can get him on, after all, we are certainly one of his target markets for book sales.

Great idea.  I would think he would be a fantastic guest.

You can tell either of the authors (Jacke or Toensmeier) that at least ONE of your listeners purchased the two book set very shortly after becoming a listener and forum member as well as a member of the MSB. I don't know if I would have found them on my own, but I'm certain this forum helped me find them much, much sooner than I would have simply searching on my own.

My first tree order of the year arrived on the same day as the books, things are continuing to fall into place here on the homestead  8)
