Hi everybody.  Joined a few months ago but first post, been reading the site as time allows.  Have to admit I haven't listened to any of the podcasts but the forum sure has a lot of information.   Not exactly new to preparedness but not anywhere close to where I want to be yet either so expect more questions than answers from me.

Hello all. I am returning. Again  ;D My husband and I have purchased our land recently and are working to get something on it so we can move there full time. We are still at least a few months away from that, but see the light at the end of the tunnel to get out of town. It is good to be back!

Our plan is to build a small cabin and go off grid. We don't have any kids left at home so small is all we need. We live in a trailer now and we both dislike it, so that wasn't go to be an option for us!

Sounds good.
We have a solar system now, but not setup yet. Maybe this year......don't know.
Need to put a shed rood on the back on the present shop building to hold the panels.
So...posts, 40' I-beam, rafters.....etc etc.....then the tin and panels.

Hey team, I’m Dan from Queensland, Australia. Been listening to TSP for a while now and thought I’d checkout the forum.
I’ve recently built a house on one acre and have a young family of 4.
I love gardening, brewing, stilling, building and martial arts.
Hope to learn a lot off of here and help out where I can.
Cheers mate.

Hello, I’m Jerry 49 yo.I’m from Southern Illinois, divorced for over ten years. I have a great son!

I have worked for IL Dept of Corrections for the last 28 years. I will retire at the end of this year due to OTJ injury. Don’t wan to, but I think it’s time to move on. At least I’m free to move from IL!

Hunter, trapper, fisherman, and firearm enthusiast since I was young. Moving more to prepping/self reliance in the last few years. Always open to “being preppered” for power outages, tornados, and no money.

Looking forward to learning and sharing info and good stories.

Hello, my name is Chris, I am 30 years old. I love night walks and beaches. My friends say I am the loner types, but I don't think so. I sometimes love being alone to think through things. So I go swimming and camping alone sometimes. It helps a lot to meditate like the Buddhists  :D.

Well.........Ok.  ??? ;D ;D

Just an observation: has this format become obsolete? I remember a good number of years ago where this board was so busy you couldn't keep up with the posts. Now it seems like it has gone asleep. Some of the big Cahunas haven't posted in several years. Have they migrated to new formats?

It's gotten slower since I've been here and, when the political postings stopped, a lot of members haven't been back. I don't understand that really. Maybe they were just using the poly board.
And it's early summer, so maybe a lot of us are toiling in the garden...hopefully.

This isn't the only board gone cold, a lot of them are completely gone. I would think there would be a lot of non-political topics of interest to anybody at anytime. The FB page is quite active, but somewhat irrelevant.

Would paranoia of being tracked be a factor?

I don't think that paranoia is such a concern in this format as it may be in social media. FB requires your real name, you could use anything that sounds like a real name other than your own I'm sure. I'm not a FB fan, that paranoia thing maybe and my FB name doesn't even sound like a real name, less so than the name I use here.

Hey everybody,

I've always had a risk-management type of mindset. Fan of Rob Hanus and his preparedness podcast as well. Working on digital (often overlooked) as well as physical security measures. Hope to get more well-rounded from you guys!

@Carver:

Times change... people move on to other interests... forums are not the thing they once were with the advent of Facebook, snapchat, twitter, etc. I do think that, over time, nearly every conceivable topic has been discussed here at one time or another, so a lot of new folks don't engage as much as do searches and find the information they seek without ever having a conversation... and the wealth of information and experience that is documented here is really quite valuable. You may find that some folks are more hesitant to share personal details on a public forum than they were years ago, so that is probably somewhat of a factor, too.

On the other hand... new folks are continuing to come aboard (albeit at a slower rate than in the heyday) and many of us long-term members continue to check in very regularly and hope to help others on their path...

Hello!  This is my first attempt at joining any sort of prepper community.  I joined because of a lot of the awesome posts here, plus my boyfriend teases me, so a little support would be nice  :)  I'm Marilyn, originally from NYC and of Colombian heritage.  I've read a lot in print and online, and watched a lot of youtube, and have some supplies.

I'm a software engineer, but thinking I might want to turn to something more useful as a career like chemist or biologist.  Turned out I have a green thumb, so that was a nice surprise!

Growing up in NYC and in Colombia we experienced emergencies like blackouts for hours or days. In 2003, I think it was, I walked down a small skyscraper, across Manhattan, and into Queens, so that really brought it home to me to  be prepared ALWAYS. In any case, I firmly believe prepping is a smart thing to do and should be for anyone and everyone.  I live now in a place where everyone pretty much is a prepper by default.  Except that I keep prepping a secret.  So here I am, willing to try to join others even if just online for now  8) ;D

Hi All, I am from Melbourne, Australia. I am retired and am interested in prepping but have not started in any way, just accumulating knowledge.
I have enjoyed bushwalking, camping and fishing for many years.
