Homestead Tax Exemption
« on: September 24, 2009, 10:34:44 PM »
Where we live you do not pay property tax if you are in one of these categories: blind, disabled, property is valued below a certain amount, 65 or older. It is written in very fine print on the back of our tax bill and is listed as a Homestead Tax Exemption. We have a house on a 1.03 acre lot and pay no property tax. If you're not sure your area has this, it's definitely worth a call or visit to the tax office.

We too have a "homestead exemption". The rules here are different, and you have to get it within the first year of owning your home or you forfeit. We were lucky to have found it. While we still have to pay, we don't pay nearly as much as if we didn't have it.
