Mexico: WTO Arbitration Requested On U.S. Food Label Rules

Mexico filed a request for arbitration with the World Trade Organization, challenging U.S. rules requiring meat to be labeled by its country of origin, Bloomberg reported Oct. 9. The rules, which require cattle born in Mexico and raised in the U.S. to be labeled as coming from Mexico, is “significantly” affecting the bovine industry, the Mexican Economy Ministry said today in a statement on its Web site.
