Who ever is running Mauritius must be pretty smart. They have been stacking those US dollars pretty high. Guess they thought there might be a better way to go. I would like a couple of tonnes myself, but alas, I can't afford the shipping.

I'm not so sure.

Gold is at an all time high and the dollar is pretty low. Unless you're looking for a simple divestment of US dollars (which is smart) into something purely stable, and are willing to pay the current price, I guess this is OK, but they're getting raped as far as exchange goes. With gold prices what they are right now, silver might be a good way to go, else the Euro or yen.

I remember thinking gold was high at $650. If it hits $3000, $1100 will be cheap. When the dollar hits 0, well then, it was a hell of a good deal. We won't know until later if it was smart or dumb.

Historically the Island has been able to work out some advantageous deals with larger Economic Entities to further trade.

Things like "Zero rated Value Added Tax for qualified business transactions" and an effective business tax after credits of 3% go a long ways towards making Africa's highest non-Oil based per capita economy dynamic.
