Congrats, R2!

 ;D

Stick a multi-band dipole along the length of your attic.

You won't regret it!

Congrats!!!

I' just today pinged a local club to inquire about Tech mentoring sessions and the exam. I figure I have the time, and it is something I want to do. Now if only I can find cheap radio stuff that I can afford . . . .

Well I took a trip up to Ham Radio Outlet in NH yesterday and ended up coming home the Yaesu FT-7900R  ;D as my first unit for the truck! Need to start saving up for another unit for the house.  ;) Now I just have to wait for my name to appear on-line and I can start ragchewing! ::)

Check out Universal Radio...they seem to be one of the cheapest places to buy new gear.

By the way, what is the going price for testing for both Tech and General?

The local VE team I visited recently only charges the standard exam price one time and you can take one, two or all three tests if you thought you could pass them.

There was a guy who got his technician and his general class license on the same day while I was there.

YMMV depending on the local VE team.

There were at least 30 taking various tests tonight, and as you said Truik, many were taking more than one. Because of the number in attendance, there were at least a half dozen or more VEC's. Great bunch of people!

Congratulations occeltic on getting your license! Very cool, did your Lass get hers as well?

You are going to enjoy this, I can tell.

Thanks TW! Getting the Lass licensed is on the agenda. I am looking forward to getting my first radio, and am still in the deciding stage, and Truik has offered some great advice. I will be looking at a dual band 2/70 since all four areas that I will find myself in has repeaters in these two bands. I know yours is a multi-band, but it is a bit on the pricey side of things, especially if I want to equip the Lass as well. Truik suggested a mobile first, followed by a handheld.

Truik definitely knows his stuff and is a good sourced for advice. I think that it is great that you have done the research and have decided which type of radio fits your immediate needs. We will be getting Mobil rigs this year at some point, as well as a base station if Sis has her way. We went with the handhelds first because our immediate concern was that we would be without our vehicles and on foot after a major earthquake. We need to coordinate to find each other.

Everyone has different needs, it is good that you have identified yours.
