spring seed shortages?

Sharon Astyck had this on her blog today about seed scarcity...
http://sharonastyk.com/2008/12/11/are-we-seeing-the-early-signs-of-a-seed-availability-crisis/

That led me to this article from a seed company site.

Just sayin'.....

Damn scary!  I'll be busting my butt this winter and summer to get started!

Could happen, who knows.  We will be ordering our seeds next paycheck provided I can come to some consensus about what varieties we want.

Stein,
Check with your local extension office.  They have the info on the best varieties for your particular area.  Most of them have websites and you can print their stuff right from there.

Well, just placed my order and here is what I found as of today.

First place was Seeds for Change.  Ordered 23 seed packets, 7 others backordered (didn't order those).

Second place was Bountiful Gardens.  Ordered 11 seed packets (7 were exact matches for the Seeds of Change backorder list plus 4 others), 1 backordered (did order it).

The only thing I couldn't get right away from either place was a red cabbage, Red Drumhead.  There wasn't a substitute so I went with the backorder.

This is my first online order so I have no idea if this is normal or abnormal.
