I would not use 18650 batteries to power my rig except in an absolute last ditch effort when absolutely nothing else was available.

It would seem to me that there would be much more potential in lipo packs from rc cars. *shrug*

Why?  They're chemistry provides the same, less than ideal, voltage characteristics for ham radio use.  Plus, what lipo packs gain in lighter weight and higher current output has to be measured against a significantly lower cycle life and increased risk of catastrophic failure compared to a quality 18650 pack. 

Teslas don't use lipo.  Cordless tools don't use lipo.  E-bike guys don't want lipo anywhere near their crotches.  All those applications utilize the safer 18650.

almost so....
The 18650 Lithium Cobalt/magnanese chemitry CANNOT be beat on weight to energy ratio. especially these days that the industry is going for amps AND capacity and their are doing it well. latests bread can cope on a QRP rig and still provide 3500mAh per cell.

BUT...LifePO4 is much safer and its voltage is at 4S is compatible with rigs that require up to 15volts. (4S 18650 exceed that at 16.8V).
On the downside is the decreased capacity which is around 1500mAh.

So for a given goal the compromises we have to chew down are either DC-DC converters for LiCo/Mn Or more batteries for the LifePO4

It is not suprisisng that there s NO one stop solution that has all the benefits. There has never been one, in any field.

Wishing I'd gone that route now, although it is great to be able to charge USB devices and maybe even start a car off my jump pack improvised rig.  Maybe next go-round.

Flipping through a few of the online manuals, it looks like they're all 12.8v across most of their operating range.  At least, that's what the manuals say.  Better than my jump pack that starts at 12.8, quickly drops to ~12.0, and rides there for a while.

12.8v is the nominal (3.2x4)..they are charged ar 3.6x4

I thought about going that route but just hit the easy button with the anderson PP and PCM balancing/charge controlling built in.  DC input from the included charger or my solar cells.

My main issue is going to be cost.  I have nothing in my batteries really.. Yes I bought a charger or two, but as I am using 18650 in oher things, I would have anyway.

The LiIoPO4 batteries are new stock.. not many 'consumer' device have them.  That said - a 10aHr battery is pretty solid to have.
