Boring Company releases video on compressed earth blocks
« on: July 14, 2018, 07:14:02 AM »
Compressed earth blocks are a highly desirable building material for preppers.  Elon Musk's boring company just released video of new 'lego-like' block process which could provide them at 10 cents per from the road projects.

Imagine, we may even soon be able to affordably bore into a hill for an earth sheltered house and simultanously produce the bricks for the front facing.  Zero-waste home production.

I enjoy the various ways Musk’s companies innovate.  This is another cool idea.  I would like to see the culture he nurtures in others fields, like education and politics.

Wait, the waste of the project becomes (in their words) stronger than a cinder block for 1/10 the price? What next, a tunnel through the Rockies and use the rock for custom countertops?

The Boring company is trying to revolutionize travel and it just stumbles into revolutionizing construction while selling flamethrowers to fund projects. Must be a crazy place to work.

Can you imagine buying a lot and excavating 3 levels underground (we're preppers) only to use the dirt to build all the block on-site? This has opportunity to become a serious construction firm. You add in the "boring" for geothermal and you've got some serious stuff. I can't wait to see where theey go with this.

A year or so ago on a flight  I sat next to an engineer who was working on this.  They worked for a not to be named self driving car company and was traveling to a not to be named retailer for a presentation. Subject? Imagine self driving cars talking to each other so they can park bumper to bumper; moving in unison when car needs to pull out of row.  Parking lots then get smaller and smaller. Then imagine this space being moved underground.  How much space did you just gain for expanding your stores as your parking lots become not needed.  And imagine if you are a self driving car company who can house a person's car safely in said space at no cost to the purchaser, always keeping the electric vehicle charged waiting within minutes of their door.  Seven years.

That is going to be a lot of blocks from this project...

Elon Musk has a new interest group that could be added to his list of enemies: Cabbies

Elon Musk's The Boring Company won the bid to connect Chicago’s Loop and O’Hare International Airport by high-speed tunnel transport.
Currently it takes Chicagoans about 45 to 50 minutes to get from downtown Chicago to O’Hare.
The number of riders in Chicago hailing cabs to O'Hare dropped from 2.3 million monthly riders to about 1.1 million from 2014 to 2017. The decline, blamed on services like Uber and Lyft, caused cabdriver revenue to decline by an average of 40 percent.
