It's almost a Gin Rickey.
What bitters do you use?

While I enjoy many brands I prefer this drink with Peychaud's. Gives it a nice pink color that my sister in law describes as effeminate.

Boring but important. Yesterday I replaced the exterior bathroom vent (we had a hail event in June that led to a new roof among other things). My wife got itchy and replaced the thermostat. Boring stuff but it's done now and not a worry when we need it to work this winter.

Yesterday, brush/tree limb/tree removal and firewood gathering/splitting/stacking for the up and coming winter. Finally got most of the shop firewood put up, am now starting on next years wood for the house.

More of the same today. Garden is about done. Been feeding the corn, tomatoes, turnip and beet tops to the piggies. Waste not, want not.  ;D

Boys were to do the roof tearoff and refelting today for our new metal roof next weekend. But it started raining last night. So.....but we were needing the moisture.
It's still raining so probably no firewood cutting unless it quits.

And I found a batch of chiggers yesterday and like a dummy, didn't spray before I started cutting out some brush around some trees I was taking out. Almost out of AfterBite, so I'm using hydrocortisone to keep the itching down.
I do not want to drive 25 miles to town just for some tubes of AfterBite. I keep telling myself that.... :excited: :stop:

I have had success with LISTERINE mouth wash or the old HEARTZ bar of red looking soap for critters as relief from chiggers and other bites.

Listerine. I'll ck on that.  8) Hydroco is working fairly well. Numerous applications, like 10#'s of face makeup  finally getting some relief.

Apple cider vinegar can reduce the inlfammation from bug bites by neutralizing them. And every prepper should have a couple quarts of that stuff lying around.

I am in the midst of replacing another outdoor vent that I found had a crack. Its valve was also stuck open.  :o Maybe the basement will be a little warmer this winter.

Lol. Keep it mainly for cookin and canning. Amish store about an hour away has it (5%) for less than 5.00 so we stock up when we are over there.
It's 5.00 for a quart in our local grocery store.
Gallon of regular 5% vinegar is less than 2.00

Chiggers got you because of the beet tops. $1.99 or less/gallon for white vinegar is good. $5 quart for cider vinegar, jeez. We keep red and white wine vinegars, Balsamic, rice wine, white, cider, malt and a 4% palm vinegar on hand most times.

Over the weekend canned:

7 pints zucchini pineapple
4 pints dilly beans
3 qts zucchini & tomato (no longer an approved combo according to NCHFP)
8 pints zucchini pickles
1 pint pickled onions

I've been working on making nasturtium bud capers too

Made homemade ricotta cheese on Friday.

Hubs, son & buddies went up to the land and did some rifle practice.

Did 6 pints of tomatillo salsa today. Before cooking wife said it was good and that I nailed the heat level. After cooking and before processing it was nice and the heat didn't hang around long, vinegary but that is to be expected at that temperature I think.

Bought a high output single burner stove. For when I get back to brewing, when I finally get good at catching crayfish at the lake, and for when the power's off.

Makes a good steam generator for bending wood too.

Here is a video from "Tips from a Shipwright" on steaming wood without a steambox.

I have a knock-off brand that's similar in construction, but not stainless :(

Mine has some grippy paint finish and gets absolutely filthy from boil-overs.  It does 30,000 BTU and has served it's purpose.
if/when it dies I'd like a stainless finish, as I think it'd fight off corrosion better.

Interesting. I would like to get a similar burner. I have the pot that I made at work. But I lack the burner.

As I compared burners on the site he linked, I questioned whether the stainless was necessary or not. Especially for almost twice the price!

But do I really care if the finish isn't nice. It's just a burner. As long as it doesn't rust completely through. I mean, I could buy two for the same price as the stainless one.
