Had a conversation with my wife about our budget. We're not in trouble but we were developing some bad spending habits. Better to discuss and get things on track now before they get out of hand. I'm getting things lined up in a new budget system (Mint) and like it so far. I'm hoping having something easy to check for five minutes a day will be a good reminder about our financial goals.

We just know what comes in and what goes out on bills. That leaves gravy money. We eat some and the rest goes to a stash, that's called being prepared for emergencies. Zero balance.

Mint.com. It's a free online tool from Intuit. I follow a couple personal finance boards and I see it (among other options) recommended frequently. I figured it's free so why not. You have to be comfortable linking your accounts to it but so far I really like it.

I had an idea, but now I know. Sometimes we were pouring a bit too much gravy on our potatoes and it was running off the plate ;)

YES,to replace the 40 meter elements on my multiband inverted "V" beam with a more frequency agile antenna plus maintain the 10 and 20 meter tuned elements. Also a spare set of wires for the BOL's antennas ,just in case.

Interesting Carl, I may give that a try. The squash I made are reminiscent of bread and butter pickles. Tasty on sandwiches.

I have done OKRA in the same manner...but the baby corn is a real winner.

I've taken some long-term projects to a gunsmith to finish them for me. I had them laying around for too long and still didn't get to them, so I thought I'll rather pay a little to have it all ready.
Ordered some books about traditional carpentry and timber building. I'm trying to add this to my knowledge lately.
Other than that, I'm still trapped in the city to work on my dissertation, which prevents me from actually doing any real work or anything cool and useful.

Food preserving: Decided to make something with the prickly pear fruit.  I made a jelly, alot of work for 5 jars of jelly, very mild flavor, would be nice on a scone with butter.

Health: Buhner's second edition of Healing Lyme is worth it, like a whole new book, not just a couple additions. I had no idea that so much has been learned about Lyme in the past years, so good that I am updating. I will start his full basic protocol after the holidays once I can find a source for a few more of the tinctures. I believe I am seeing results from my supplements to treat my underlying methalation cycle defects, all I have done for it is Hydroxocabalimin, sublingual -- a LOT of it ( a basic form of B12), and methylfolate. Also making sure the dietary sources, which would never be enough on their own, are increased - so alot of eggs and dairy daily then whole wheat, peanut butter and dark greens daily, normal amounts. I have a rare homozegous genetic mutation of MTR gene, and then lots of related (having to do with the same methalation cycle and detoxing areas, including MTRR and MTHFR) heterozygous. Like this guys short, easy to understand link https://marvellogic.wordpress.com/tag/mtr/   I take most of my B12 in a different form than him do to other things I have going on. Yes, I have known of this for a few years, but did not appreciate what I was supposed to do about it or why it was so important to getting better.

(Yes, he has a typo this :
Quote
But as soon as I started to supplement mB12 my MTR got going, grabbing homocysteine and folates left and right. Because my MTRR is broken too, there’s nothing to keep it in pace. My MTR floored it!
should say "....because my MTR is broken too...." )

Replaced some storehouse items we have used, some were on sale, like butter.
$2.25 lb, so we stock up and put it in the freezer.

Dusted off my resume. I'm not planning on needing it but I was browsing some IT forums and ran across a post asking for resume help. After offering some help I realized I should update mine with my new job.

I added the basic skeleton for what I do/have done. It needs a lot of polishing but the framework is there. I will try to work on it and have it ready to go (if needed) by the end of 1st quarter. I don't plan on needing it for some time but it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Reworking the pen at the barn to keep the horses up this winter. That way the fertilizer will be in one area. Lol

Wife is cooking the 6 chickens up she butchered 3 days ago. She will can the meat, something we want to do more of. We canned some smoked pork earlier this year, and we had success, so we will jump in and do more meat.

Finally bottled up the wine I had going in carboys.  Used a bit of "leftover"wine to start some wine vinegar with the very healthy mother I grew in my cider vinegar.

Picked up some gas & pain relief meds and some sponges for storage at a local dollar store (not a chain, a true overstock type place).

Did some organization down in the stockroom.

The cancer in my liver was not being effected by the 'normal' chemo and this heavy duty stuff ,also concentrated chemo,
was shoved up through a blood vessel in my groin till it reached a spot in my liver to both block the blood to the cancer and deposit chemo
....essentially killing 10-15% of my liver AGAIN...but in another location.
In a few weeks I will get a PET scan to see if it did any good.
I still have cancer in my prostate, lymph nodes, and lower colon that ,while slowed by regular cancer ,have not given up.
It feels like a hot coal in my chest today, and will for several days. Much pain and drugs only take the edge off it.

Drugs must be great as I was cutting a grapefruit and made a good cut in my thumb and don't yet feel a thing.
