not today, but the past week.
I am setting up my first smartphone, with relevant preparedness and HAM apps too.
After the external microSD card died, I ma reconsidering if I should me using a card with my survival PC directories on an easy stolen/lost device.

NO,items of such importance should be protected by having many duplicate copies and back-ups.

Past weekend I went to an event with the FIW reenactment friends. Just a small group, camping in the woods for a couple days. Once again I confirmed myself that the everlasting dilemma of many internet survivalists "axe vs. saw" has the result "axe" for me. It was really cold and snowing there and there was no good dry wood in the forest around. Just small sticks, good for starting the fire, not good for keeping it going. Luckily there were two fallen pines, unluckily they were totally fresh and wet. I had my antique felling axe, so I chopped off several large pieces of the logs and split them enough to burn, even though they were green. Saw would speed up bucking the logs, but wouldn't help splitting them, so once again axe wins it for me. I do like saws and I own many, both modern and traditional, but when it comes to the one tool option, I'll have an axe any day.
Other than that, it was another opportunity to practice outdoor winter camping with just wool blankets and tarps. We had a lot of period cooking planned, but my friend had terrible hangover for most of Saturday and didn't really feel like cooking or eating. So we only cooked a little.
I also managed to hurt my shin nicely, bruising and partially skinning it on the edge of my buddy's wooden chest he kept in the way...not a big deal, but it's pretty annoying, as the clothes tend to stick to the skinned area, opening the wounds again. After three days of using modern antiseptic powder and getting nowhere, I switched to my homemilled powder of shepherd's purse seeds and it seems to work much better. Planning to soak and apply some dried plantain leaves I have in stock. That should speed up the healing, once the would has calmed a little.
So, I was expecting just a little winter camping practice with primitive gear, but I got to test my lumberjack skills as well, plus my medic skills now. Not to mention, I got some new orders there, which fuels my home business and thus my independence. And I cleaned my head of all the annoying science that was haunting me during the past weeks of finishing my dissertation. Weekend well spent!

I got that covered...I am actually considering the access to these info (and some personal non-critical info -like photos- among them) by anyone that will maliciously access my phone.

Canned meat earlier a few days ago. Chicken and also the broth.
Wife is preparing the last of the frozen elderberry's. Need the room in the freezer for new meat showing up from the butchers in a week or so. Took 2 piggies in last week.
Also need to process the frozen cantaloupe into jam and get that out of the freezer.
Will smoke some pork tomorrow and start canning that. Meat which has been in the freezer for a year this month.
All this is to clear freezer space and add food to the storeroom.

Well, today I fed my chickens. I have 6 hens they produced 7 eggs. My children and I moved our ducklings from the garage to their coop we built this weekend. I cleaned and fed our horse. My wife and I finished a crossfit workout. I consider everyday a prep if I can teach my children something new about taking care of the land, animals or themselves.

 8) 8) Well that's great. Unusual for sure.
Someday I hope we get the same amount of eggs that we have hens. Lol

Some things are just too good to simply 'look at them' ,you must use them to enjoy.

Found a 1923 video that shows an old Swedish smith forging a certain type of axe that I was wondering how was made. Can't wait to try it myself.
Also, got good haggle deal on ebay for an old Finnish hatchet that I wanted for a while. Really curious how it's gonna work. It shares several features with medieval axes and the Finnish bushcrafters seem to love that type a lot. It's the old style, but factory forged sometime in the 20th century and they don't make these for several decades anymore, so they're getting hard to find. Will let you know how it works, once it arrives and I put it on a new shaft.

Did some cleaning and maintenance on my SXS 12ga caplock. I'm about to make a decent leather sling for it once the writing is behind me. Also planning to equipp it with a functional set of shooting accessories. What I have now does work, however it's far from perfect. I think I'll make a dedicated hunting bag for it. Not necessarily all period-correct for it, but all shall be simple and functional. I've already fixed an old english shot pouch for it (the one with measuring spout), now will see if I can find a powder flask with the right sized nozzle for a shotgun load.

Retrieved the 2 piggies from their 2 week vacation. Couldn't get them both crammed in the freezer, so took the overflow over to the son's freezer.
Bought bulk wide mouth canning flats.

today i found out that three old AA battery powerbanks can power a modern smartphone at 5V.
these were/are placed in various small kits and replacing them is a small expense.
So i started modifying their wires to microSD connectors.

in the process I burned my USB meter so no great savings in total :(

Made a resupply run, scored flour at a good price and got enough to refill one bucket, rotated with the second bucket. The other stuff to the store room and rearrange that.

Weights are different. Then it has the added safety lock on the handle, that leaks steam until fully pressured then it seals.
And the weight is supposed to giggle a lot, instead of 3-4 times a minute.

Weights are different. Was wondering about that. Then it has the added safety lock on the handle, that leaks steam until fully pressured then it seals. Yes[color]
And the weight is supposed to giggle a lot, instead of 3-4 times a minute. Mine doesn't giggle usually, just releases steam so I figure it's at pressure. It has suddenly started whistling then giggling.

I looked at several videos and all said about the weight giggling. Mine doesn't usually but if I turn the heat up a little it will start. As long as it's releasing steam I figure it's at pressure.

Reread the book. Small, steady jiggling. That's about #2 on our LP stove, the big burner.
